This quietly situated, family owned campsite can be found on the outskirts of Kasterlee, famous for its gastronomic restaurants. There are 177 pitches, 70 for touring, all with 10A electric hook-ups, water and drainage. These pitches will be relocated to a new area of the site with upgraded facilities. On-site amenities include an excellent children’s play area and a popular bar and restaurant.
This attractive, quietly located holiday site has 494 shady pitches, of which 206 (all with 10A Europlug electricity) are for touring units. The site has a Mediterranean feel and is set on sandy soil among pine trees and rhododendrons and arranged around a large lake.
A large family holiday site with 900 individual pitches, Goolderheide has been owned and operated by the same family for many years and has an excellent pool complex and playgrounds. There are many seasonal and rental units, plus around 250 touring pitches with 6/10/16A electricity, all in a forest setting. The pitches are of variable size and access roads are quite narrow. The outdoor pool complex has two large pools (one of Olympic size), a slide and a paddling pool. There is also a fishing lake, and a lake with a small sandy beach. An enormous area is devoted to a comprehensive play area with a vast range of equipment.
This is an attractive woodland site and a member of the Floreal group. It is located close to the well known Purperen Heide, a superb nature reserve with 15 scenic footpaths leading through it. There are 228 pitches, of which only 32 are reserved for touring units. These are of a good size (100 sq.m. or more), all with 16A electricity and most with their own water supply. Two simple cabins are available for hikers, as well as fully equipped mobile homes. There are some good leisure facilities, including tennis and a multisports pitch, as well as a popular bar and restaurant.
In a convenient location just off the A10 motorway and close to Bruges, this site is in two distinct areas divided by an access road. The main part of the site offers a lake with a marked off swimming area, a sandy beach, water slides and boating (no fishing). The touring section has 137 large pitches on flat grass separated by well trimmed hedges; all have electricity and access to water and drainage. Some leisure facilities for children are provided on this part of the site, along with a spacious bar and snack bar with takeaway (seasonal). The main site with all the privately owned mobile homes is closer to the lake, so has most of the amenities. These include the main reception building, restaurants, bar, minimarket, and sports facilities.
The Campine is an area covering three quarters of the Province of Antwerp, noted for its nature reserves, pine forests, meadows and streams and is ideal for walking and cycling, while Turnhout itself is an interesting old town. Baalse Hei, a long established, friendly site, has 469 pitches including a separate touring area of 71 large grass pitches (all with 16A electricity, TV connections and shared water point), thoughtfully developed with trees and bushes. Cars are parked away from, but near the pitches. Large motorhomes can be accommodated (phone first to check availability). There is also accommodation to rent.
Kindervreugde is a small, simple site, just 500 m. from the Plopsaland theme park, and 2 km. from the beach at De Panne. Being close to the French border, it is also convenient for the ferry ports at Calais and Dunkirk. The three-hectare site has 40 large (100sqm) level grass pitches with water, drainage and 6A electricity, with a choice of shade or open aspect.
Camping De Schuur is a small, quiet campsite in Herentals, Antwerp, Belgium. It's a great place to relax and explore the region, with the art cities of Antwerp, Lier, and Herentals all within easy reach. The campsite doesn't have many facilities on site, but it is perfect for those who want a quiet holiday. There is, however, a petting farm on-site and a tavern where you can enjoy traditional local dishes, ice cream, and refreshing drinks. The campsite has its own entrance via the Cycling Junction Network No. 65. You can immediately start cycling straight from the site or take a walk following a section of the GR5 route. There are 34 touring pitches on site with electric hook-up points available, 2 of which have private sanitary facilities located directly on the pitch. Pitches are not delimited, but you have a choice of staying under mature trees, giving plenty of shade during the summer months, or on the large camping field.
Floreal Het Veen can be found 20km—North of Antwerp in a woodland area with many activities to keep the whole family entertained whilst staying here. There are around 305 marked pitches (approximately 75 for touring units) on level grass, most with shade and 10A electricity (long leads in some places) and six hardstandings.
Blaarmeersen is a comfortable, well managed municipal site in the west of the city. It adjoins a sports complex and a fair sized lake which together provide facilities for a variety of watersports, tennis, squash, minigolf, football, athletics track, roller skating and a playground. There are 337 pitches for touring units, these are flat, grassy, individually separated by hedges and mostly arranged in circular groups, all with electricity. There are 43 hardstandings for motorhomes, plus a separate area for tents with barbecue facilities. There is noise from the nearby city ring road. There is a good network of paths and cycle routes around the city.
This traditional site is ideal for visiting Brugge (or Bruges). The 120 marked pitches (80 for touring caravans, 20 hard standing) are on level grass, with gravel roads and trees and hedges providing some shade. Electricity (10A) is available to all pitches. There is a separate area for 40 small, two-person tents. Bars, restaurants, local shops and supermarkets are within walking distance. Brugge itself has a network of cycleways, and for those on foot, a bus stops near the campsite and runs into the centre. Reservation from May to September is recommended. Visitors with large units should always telephone in advance to ensure an adequate pitch.
This attractive and well cared for site would suit families with younger children. Situated in a forest it has 478 pitches of which 368 are for touring units. The pitches are large and laid out in avenues with plenty of shade and all have 10A electricity, water and drainage. At the centre of the site is a large, man-made lake surrounded by sand which is safe for children. A good sub-tropical style pool complex offers a range of slides and water based activities. With a range of activities on offer there is little need to leave the site. There is a large supermarket.
This is a large and very lively site situated around a large, artificial lake which also serves as the site swimming pool. The campsite is targeted at a family clientele. Large pitches are spread throughout the site, with the 126 for touring which are separated from around 500 seasonal and rental units. The pitches are on grass and all have 6A electricity and water. Dogs are officially not accepted but when we visited there were many dogs on the site. Two water slides run into the large artificial lake (not fenced and unsuitable for young children). The site is within the national park, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Although large, it is geared towards families and is ideal for those with younger children.
Lying on the southern fringe of medieval Ypres, this is a convenient spot from which to explore the town's history, inextricably linked to the Great War, perhaps starting at the elegant central square with its Cloth Hall, largely rebuilt after 1918, and the moving In Flanders Fields Museum. A footpath leads you straight into the town.
Ter Duinen is a large, seaside holiday site with 120 touring pitches and over 700 privately owned static holiday caravans. The pitches are laid out in straight lines with tarmac access roads, and the site has three toilet blocks with token-operated showers. Other than a bar, small shop, playground and a playing field, the site has few other facilities, but it is only a 600 m. walk to the sea, and next door to the site is a large sports complex with a sub-tropical pool and several sporting facilities. Opportunities for riding and hiring bikes are close by.
Hof van Eeden is a cosy, quiet and child-friendly family site located in a green area in Westerlo also called the 'Pearl of the Kempen'. It is a great base to explore the surrounding region. You will find it to be an ideal walking and cycling environment.
Surrounded by woodland, and with shade from tall pines, this large site has 976 pitches, of which 277 are for touring units. The touring pitches are attractively arranged around a large man-made lake with a fence surrounding it (safe for children). Each pitch has 10A electricity, water, drainage and television connections. There is a whole range of activities including a disco and a heated outdoor pool with slide. There are two additional small pools for children. A bar offers takeaway food and a good supermarket is on the site. This is a popular and lively site with an extensive entertainment programme which is varied to suit all age groups.
This large, attractive site is situated alongside the Bocholt-Herentals canal and the Lommel yacht marina. It has 800 pitches of which 250 are for touring units. Each pitch has 10A electricity, water and drainage. The site fronts onto a large lake with a safe beach and there are three smaller lakes within the site, one of which is used for fishing (well stocked but all fish must be returned). There is an Olympic-size, outdoor pool with a large slide and a small pool for children (not supervised). Several good quality play areas are spread throughout the site. This site is ideal for relaxing or enjoying the canal and other water-based activities.
This is a basic, rural site less than a kilometre walk from a pretty Flemish village with a tourist information office, cafés, bars and shops. The site extends up the slopes of Kemmelberg, the highest point in West Flanders. The 230 seasonal pitches are on the upper part of the site, while 50 grass touring pitches are by the site entrance on firm, level ground. There are an additional 20 hardstandings for motorhomes and a separate tent field. All the pitches have 6A electric hook-up available. Cabins and pods are available for hire. English, Dutch, French and German are spoken.
Camping Zavelbos lies between woodland and moorland in a nature park of 2,000 hectares. It is a pleasant spot for nature lovers and those who love peace and quiet. There are many cycling and walking routes to enjoy in this beautiful region, alternatively you can simply relax in the peaceful campsite grounds complete with a large fishpond. There is no swimming pool but guests have free use of the pool complex at Wilhelm Tell Holiday Park (6 km). The 60 touring pitches (100-120 sq.m) all have 16A electricity (Europlug) and water. Bungalows and chalets are available to rent.

Flanders
The northern part of Belgium is known as Flanders and the Flemish inhabitants speak Dutch. The countryside is painted with soft green hills and winding roads and cities exhibit their charm with cobbled streets, gothic cathedrals and artistic treasures. Flanders is most often associated with the devastating battles that took place there during World War I. A frequently visited destination is Ypres, with its war graves, museums and surrounding battlefields providing a poignant reminder of the overwhelming loss of life during that period. Today, Flanders is a thriving region with a flourishing modern art and fashion scene, as well as a rich comic culture - both Tintin and the Smurfs originated here.
The region can scarcely be mentioned without a nod to its culinary delights. A staggering number of beers is available, many of which have their own glasses that are shaped to enhance the flavour. There's also Flemish beef stew, sometimes served with pain d'epices, and mussels are served almost everywhere during mussel season.
