9. Alan Rogers Unique Campsite Award
This award acknowledges sites with unique, outstanding features – something which simply cannot be found elsewhere and which is an important attraction of the site.
WINNER
Huttopia Rambouillet (FR78040), Rambouillet, France
A brilliant family resort style site close to Paris but inspired by a natural concept more typical of a North American style, with bivouacs and gypsy style caravans. Everything here is inspired by the environment and this site offers a wonderful opportunity to experience a wholly natural holiday.
RUNNERS UP
Kawan Village La Ferme des Aulnes (FR80070), Nampont St Martin, France
A popular small site with some really creative and innovative ideas, such as indoor archery and a cosy piano bar. All the main facilities have been developed around the courtyard of a 17th century farm. The friendly owners seem always to be able to find new ways to ensure the success of their customers’ holidays.
Exe Valley Caravan Site (UK1590), England
This site boasts several unique features, centered around the use of water. Every pitch is set besides running water and there are many opportunities for bird and otter watching. But the really unique feature is the watermill which is still working after 400 years and which can be visited by campers.
10. Alan Rogers Family Site Award
Many sites claim to be family friendly but this award acknowledges the sites we feel to be the very best in this respect.
WINNER
Kampeercentrum de Beerze Bulten (NL5985), Beerze / Ommen, Netherlands
An excellent family site with some first rate amenities and activities for all ages – a site which really does offer something for everyone in a very pleasant environment. We were particularly impressed by the gigantic ‘rabbit hole’ adventure play park and spa centre.
RUNNERS UP
Trevella Caravan Park (UK0170), Newquay, England
A very popular and friendly family site close to the popular resort of Newquay. This superbly maintained site has everything for a great family holiday in a magnificent setting. The site is a children’s paradise with many amenities and a great beach close at hand.
Camping La Torre del Sol (ES8540), Montroig, Spain
A popular family site with direct access to a superb beach and an outstanding swimming pool complex. The children’s Happy Camp reservation and activity programme is excellent and deservedly popular. Very many activities are on offer for all ages and interests.
Villaggio Turistico Internazionale (IT6014), Bibione, Italy
A large, professionally run holiday village which offers all that the holidaymaker could want. The results of a programme of continuous improvement are very impressive. A comprehensive entertainment program is on offer and the site’s sandy beach is excellent.
11. Alan Rogers Readers Award
Alan Rogers readers are invited to nominate (by means of an on-line poll at alanrogers.com and alanrogers.nl) their favourite site.
WINNER
Playa Montroig Camping Resort (ES8530), Montroig, Spain
Playa Montroig is an excellent site of real quality which has featured in Alan Rogers guides for over 40 years. We are delighted that this superb site proved the most popular with Alan Rogers readers in 2007.
12. Alan Rogers Special Award
A special award is made to acknowledge site which we feel have overcome significant setbacks and have not only returned to their former condition, but can actually be considered to be better than before. In 2007 we wish to acknowledge 2 campsites which, we feel, fall into this category and have impressed us with their recoveries.
WINNERS
Camping Aareg (CH9510), Brienz am See, Switzerland
This site suffered badly during the floods of 2005 but has been rebuilt to a superb standard, including new amenities such as a new toilet block and extensive replanting.
Centro Turistico San Nicola (IT6845), Peschici, Italy
This friendly site enjoys a magnificent setting sloping down to a fine sandy beach. The site was badly damaged by forest fires but has been restored in a very impressive manner.
And finally...
Camping Marina di Venezia (IT6045), Punta Sabbioni, Italy
Lastly we are delighted to present a special award to Camping Marina di Venezia (IT6045), Punta Sabbioni, Italy which will be celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2008. We are delighted that this excellent site has appeared in the Alan Rogers guides since 1968. We warmly congratulate them on their anniversary.
Our warmest congratulations to all our award winners and our commiserations to all those not having won an award on this occasion. Only the best campsites appear in Alan Rogers Guides, so the competition to win is difficult indeed
